Deep clean or
regular clean?

The one-sentence version

A regular clean maintains a standard. A deep clean establishes one. If your home is already at the standard you want, book a regular clean; if it isn't, no number of regular cleans will quietly get it there.

Why that is, mechanically

A maintenance visit is scoped and timed for a house that was cleaned recently. The work is surfaces, floors, bathrooms, kitchen — the things that get dirty in two weeks.

The things that take a year to get dirty aren't in that visit. Baseboards, door frames, the film on light switches, grout, the ring in the shower track, window sills. A regular clean doesn't skip these because someone is cutting corners; it skips them because they don't need doing every fortnight, and doing them would mean not doing something that does.

So if a house arrives with a year of that built up, regular cleans leave it there indefinitely. The house looks tidy and never quite feels clean, and the customer slowly concludes their cleaner isn't very good.

When you can skip the deep clean

Genuinely, sometimes you can.

• You've had a cleaner recently and just switched to Astrid.
• The house is new, or nearly.
• You clean thoroughly yourself and want the time back rather than a rescue.
• It's a small apartment in good condition.

Say so when Astrid quotes. She'd rather start you on a regular schedule than sell you a deep clean you don't need, because the customer who feels upsold on day one doesn't stay.

When you definitely shouldn't

• Nobody has cleaned it properly in over a year.
• You've just moved in, or you're moving out.
• There's visible build-up in the showers, or the grout has gone a colour.
• Pets, and you're being honest with yourself about it.
• You're about to start a regular schedule and want it to actually work.

What it means for cost

A deep clean is a bigger job and costs more — once. Then the regular visits that follow are priced as maintenance, which is what they now genuinely are. Skip it, and either every regular visit runs long or the house never gets there.
