What makes it deep

A regular clean handles the surfaces you use. A deep clean handles the ones you've stopped noticing.

Skirting boards. The tops of door frames. Behind the toilet. The inside of the window tracks where the sliding door meets the frame. Light switches and the grubby ring around every handle in the house. Individually none of them matter. Together they're the difference between a house that's tidy and a house that's clean.

It takes considerably longer than a maintenance visit, which is why it's priced as its own job rather than as a slightly bigger regular clean.

When people book one

• Before starting a regular schedule. Establishes the baseline everything after it maintains.
• Seasonally. Once or twice a year, usually spring and before the holidays.
• After a stretch of neglect. New baby, a bad few months at work, a house that simply got away from you. No judgement — this is most of the work.
• Before guests. The in-laws are coming and the guest bathroom hasn't been properly done since last time the in-laws came.

How long it takes

Longer than you think, and much longer than a regular visit — a deep clean on a home that hasn't had one in a year or two is most of a day's work. That's the honest answer, and it's why Astrid wants to see or hear about the place before quoting rather than throwing a number at it.

It only has to happen once

The reason a deep clean is worth it is that you never have to pay for another one. Once the house is at that baseline, a regular visit holds it there. People who book a deep clean and then never book again are usually the ones who end up needing a second deep clean two years later.
